Our most recent purchase was a laptop computer so I could hook up the [Easton] Bow Force Mapper, which we bought at the 2008 ATA Show. We use that as part of our bow-tuning service. We map out the bow before and after doing out tune-up.
The Bow Force Mapper shows the bow's exact force-draw curve and its hysteresis curve. By showing 'before-and-after' curves, we can confirm for customers that our bow tuning makes a difference. Once a bow is tuned, you can show them the hysteresis curve is closer to the force-draw curve, which proves it's shooting efficiently.
Before we had the laptop, all we could do was fill out a data spec sheet and assume the bow was shooting more efficiently, because the arrows were recording faster chronograph speeds. The Bow Force Mapper backs it up. By following that force-draw curve, customers see how their bow pulls at different points on the draw stroke.
We always try to add 'high-technology' to our shop because we want to be known as a pro shop. We want customers to see us one step higher than our competition. By providing this service, we hope to build that credibility.
Its been a surprise how much customers like this service. We assumed it would be mainly for compound-bow shooters, but we-re finding traditional shooters also like it. A lot of them use it for their re-curves or longbows, especially guys who build their own bows. Now they can see exactly how their bows pull.
We make sure everyone know we offer these services. It helps customers understand how we can improve bow performance.
